Before you Begin A Fence Repair or Fence Replacement

Two items to consider before taking on a fence repair or replacement project. Some questions a homeowner may want to ask or inquire regarding a fence restoration.

First, is the home that has a fence repair or restoration located in a HOA (Home Owners Association) neighborhood? Each HOA has minor differences in the code to repair or replace a fence. Most require a rendering or drawing of the proposed replacement or repair as well as pictures to document what will be done.  All the necessary information the HOA requires needs to be submitted to them for a review.

This process may be short meaning a week or two. It could also take over 4 weeks to get an approval. The worst case scenario is it gets rejected with why they rejected it and now your back to the drawing board. Our experience with HOA’s has ranged from all the above situations. Make sure you know what the HOA in your neighbor allows to make the process go smoothly.

Secondly, before choosing a fence style and height, we recommend reading or calling the City of Carrollton, TX Fence Ordinances to see if there are any restrictions. We have provided this information for you below. The estimators on our team have experience with the fencing codes for most cities, however the cities do implement new rules from time to time.

We make it easy!

We secure and complete all the required city permits and follow city ordinances so you don’t have to worry about anything. We’ve added their regulations below taken from the Carrollton website.

City of Carrollton Fence Permits & Regulations

Fence Permits
A fence permit is required for any new fence over 20′ in length. A site plan showing the proposed fence location and application fee of $50.00 is required. Maintenance of fences by replacing boards and posts up to 20′ in length does not require a permit. Lack of a permit requirement is not authorization for obstruction of drainage or visibility easements.

Fences Adjacent To Screening Walls
Where a fence intersects with a screening wall and the height of fence exceeds height of screening wall, the fence shall transition to the height of the screening wall over a mimimum distance of 20 ft. (Where unusual terrain &/or lot orientation do not allow for an orderly transition then the transition to the screening wall may be less than 20 ft).
